What type of bug is this?

Does anyone know what this is?  It’s just over an inch long.

It looks a little like the praying mantis I found last year, but I’ve never seen such a small and square looking creature.  Refer to post on August 31, 2008:

Tell me what you think!

Not Overwhelmed now!

I thought I’d show you the fruits of my labor during the winter and spring when I was feeling so overwhelmed.

My fruit trees are pruned and bearing fruit.

My vegetable garden; a few things are bearing.

The grass is in and everything is green.

I Know I’m ahead of the game, this season!

Still my new mantra:

I FEEL CALM

I FEEL CALM

I FEEL CALM

Digital Photography Class

I’ve completed my digital photography class. I didn’t go to all of the sessions because I felt overwhelmed by the second session. My low saturation point was from my lack of knowledge of cameras and my inability to take in too much at once—it wasn’t the instructor’s lack of skill. Before taking this class, I would point my camera and shoot period.

Many years ago, I was taking an algebra class and the instructor spoke on “imaginary numbers”, I thought he was kidding, at first. Well I had the same feeling taking this class when she started describing aperture, burst, macro, micro, digital zoom, etc. It would have been nice if I could have referred to my camera’s user guide, but it was lost.

However, I did learn a few things:

1. Keep the camera on the “highest resolution”

2. My camera has a “Kids & Pets” scene

3. Use the “flash” to get rid of shadows

4. Don’t use the “digital zoom”

Here are some examples of my photos taken during the last few weeks:

This is my feral cat, Big Boy.

Dakota Dog

What I learned after taking the photography class is:

t + p = i

or

Time and practice = better photo

Knitting Socks

Here’s a picture of my finished “first” pair of socks:

I can’t seem to do just one of something–look what else I’ve knitted:

To finally see this come to fruition makes me excited and very happy. I will be in Heaven (not literally) when this is published.

I lost my mother almost seven years ago and there were three things that helped me make it through the grief process: first, my husband; second, my sister; and third, the San Luis Obispo Hospice. I want to pay Hospice back for their great work and this is my way of saying “thank-you.” I also hope the book is helpful to other people going through the grief process.

Heaven Can Wait!

My husband, Roland, and I went to a charity benefit today.  Here are some of the photos I took:

Author “Mary Higgins Clark” interview

Mary Higgins Clark was interviewed on Travis Smiley:

I enjoyed the interview; I hope you do, too.
