Guru or Genius Update

Our website still wasn’t working correctly until I asked “Dreamhost” to help me.  I’m embarassed to say that he fixed it in five – ten seconds.  It might have been really easy because it’s a common problem; I don’t know.

I don’t think I will be doing much with FillaZilla in the future, since that is how I  messed up the website.  I’m just not qualified to be doing very advanced things behind the scene.  I’ve learned my lesson.

THANK YOU DREAMHOST!

Too Little Time

Too many men, too little time.  Well, actually it’s too many websites, too little time. I watching six sites now and I beginning to think it’s five too many.

Here’s the site that has been keeping me very busy for the last two – three months: http://www.slonightwriters.org

Another problem is my computer.  The network card’s signal strength is low most of the time and the computer is running very slowly.  I’ve manually done the maintenance and increased the frequency that the machine will automatically do maintenance.  I’ve also removed several programs.  Jim Leonard suggested some of the things I did, but I’m fresh out of ideas now and I think Jim is too.

I forgot, I had a virus last week and Roland removed it for me, too.

SLO NightWriters’ Techie Tips

Here I am at the SLO NightWriters’ February monthly meeting giving a Techie Tip.

I’ve been very busy updating the SLO NightWriters’ website:

Check out their website and see what has been occupying my time.

Guru or Genius

I made a big mistake three weeks ago and my site was off line because of it.  I was trying to upgrade four websites behind the scene, using FileZilla.  I was out of my league and I managed to mess up two of the sites.

I called my “guru”, Christine Taylor.  She wasn’t annoyed; she even complimented me saying, “most people couldn’t get that far into the system to make a mistake.”

Christine couldn’t fix the problem, however she backed up my site so I wouldn’t loose anything.  Christine had to call her “genius”, her brother Warren Taylor.

I am extremely grateful for his help and Christine’s.

Warren is a writer and has two websites of his own to take care of:

As a writer, I especially enjoyed the first website.

Helping a Friend

Last month I did something different.  I helped a writer friend, Sue HardySue'sAvatar, build a website.  Click on her avatar, the bookworm, to view her new website.

Good luck, Sue.

Updating our Websites 1

Notice some changes?  All three of our sites now have the same theme, now. This site needs some adjustments to the theme colors, boxes on the side (like on the children’s site), more items in the blogroll, header and footer created and placed on each page.

The children’s site needs some adjustments to the theme colors and a few more stories.  I think it will be completed in the next week.  The site is currently 92 pages and it might reach 115 pages over the next few years.  Check out the site and leave feedback for improvements:

The Sunday school site needs a lot more work:  adjustments to the theme colors, boxes on the side, more items in the blogroll, header and footer created and placed on each page.

However, the structure has been created and many pages have been written already.  I was hoping to get the site finished in time for school, but I have my doubts about the time frame.  The site is currently 83 pages and I think it will grow to 120 pages.  Jim Leonard would have a better idea how large the site will grow.

There are 41 pages on this site, not counting the posts.  Between the three sites we have over 200 pages to monitor and keep working correctly.  No wonder I want to pull my hair out sometimes. I almost forgot, each of us has a website, too.  Mine has 12 pages, Jim’s has several and I’m not sure how many sites or pages Christine has.  I just realized I’m a techno-geek!

Updating our Websites

We are still working on our children’s and our new Sunday school site.  The process is slower than I thought it would be and a lot more detailed.  It is taking all the skills Christine, Jim and I have, however, the sites are turning out to be sooooooooo cute.

The children’s site should be done in the next month, but I think the Sunday school site will be an on-going process.

In addition, Christine is very busy with her book, Jim is busy writing stories for the Sunday school site and I am busy pulling my hair out.

Updating our sites

We are in the process of updating:

kritiquekritics

kritiquekritics/children

We will be updating the themes to match our new kritiquekritics.com/sundayschool site.  We will also be making some aesthetic changes to the sites.

Right now the web cams at the aquarium (on the children’s site) are down and we are still having trouble finding more web cams.  I had know idea how much time and effort it would take to build and maintain a website–let alone, three.

Christine, Jim and I have been so busy with our books, website updates and creation that we haven’t been blogging as often.
